This is the best book on the subject for self studies. Excellent build up of the physical problems. The mapping from physical intuition to mathematical formulation then naturally follows. As you work through the models and proofs, you can feel the ease with which the author uses his mathematical mastery to tackle the physical problem at hand.

Among the current textbooks on qft applications in condensed matter this is most probably the best. It covers many interesting topics and I think its main focus is topological properties. There is no chapter on superconductivity which can be learned in many other textbooks and I don't think it is major con because otherwise he should have added at least 100 more pages to this book. However I should mention that in some chapters it gets very ambiguous and difficult to read and oftentimes I found it necessary to read the original papers introduced in this book.

I won't call it a great book

This is, to my knowledge, the most comprehensive book on field theory techniques of condensed matter physics. If at a seminar you heard a concept that you never heard before, this is the textbook you would go to to find out what it is.

However, after numerous attempts to follow several different chapters, I find this textbook very, very hard to follow -- at some places it is so technical as to swamp the reader into derivations without knowing where they would lead to, while at other places it is too terse, so that some crucial steps are omitted. Quite often, only when I go to the original paper, I could understand what the author had meant -- but in that case why read the book in the first place?

Understanding Etheridge Knight (Understanding Contemporary American Literature) is a fantastic analysis of the work of Etheridge Knight, and if you are a lover of literature or new comer, this book by Mr. Collins is insightful, scholarly and passionately rendered.
This book is a must acquire and read.

Common Sacred Ground was pianist Don Pullen's last recording. A collaboration between the seven-voice Native American Chief Cliff Singers and Pullen's African Brazilian Connection. This a sextet with master musicians: altoist Carlos Ward and trombonist Joseph Bowie. This is a magnificent recording and an unusual symbiosis of First Nation Culture, Black Culture and more. Most attempts at this kind of rendering are not substantive or successful...but for me this recording is a resounding and visionary success. This is one of my favorite recordings of Don Pullen and I highly recommend you acquiring a copy of this masterpiece

About the Author
Sorin Voinigescu is a Professor at the University of Toronto, where his research and teaching interests focus on nano-scale semiconductor devices and their application in integrated circuits at frequencies beyond 300 GHz. The co-founder of Quake Technologies, Inc., he was a recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 2001 IEEE Custom Integrated Circuits Conference, 2005 IEEE Compound Semiconductor IC Symposium (CSICS) and of the Beatrice Winner Award at the 2008 IEEE International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC). His students have won Student Paper Awards at the 2004 VLSI Circuits Symposium, the 2006 RFIC Symposium and at the 2008 International Microwave Symposium.

This book should be the best in integrated circuit design with Silicon Germanium HBT which I ever bought.
There are many detail which I never read in this book. Because Silicon Germanium HBT model or
equivalent circuit and collector current equation usuallly unknown for new circuit designer but it might be
a little bit different from silicon bipolar junction transisstor (BJT). This book is very cheap compared with more than 800 pages.
I think usually cheap book with the pages more than 800 pages should sell better than more expensive book with less than 300 pages.
